The reason I wanted to tell you this story is because of how much such stories need to be heard. Our world is so focused on the big names, the flashy lights, the bold, brave celebrities who can tweet about their breakfasts and cause a sensation. But nobody will ever know about a simple man named Mike Patterson, a 43 year old hero, who made an instant decision to put somebody else's life over his own.
Life is so valuable, so precious. The ability to see the sunrise in the morning. The ability to run. To taste. To love. To speak. I don't know about you but I hold all these things so close to my heart. And I don't know if I'd ever have the power to give that all up. But he did. Mike Patterson did.
He truly is a hero.
And that's why I believe in the world. That's why I believe in God. Because he creates people who have so much soul, so much courage that they can give everything for someone else. He creates soldiers. He creates teachers who jump in front of their students during a school shooting. He creates mothers who can love another human more than themselves. And even if you're not religious or you're an atheist, I know that you can just believe in ideas like goodness and humanity because of people like Mike Patterson.
So go a little stronger. Smile a little wider. Do it for Mike Patterson. <33
